My Alfred Angelo Wedding Dress

This week, is the week of my Wedding Anniversary, and I thought what better way of celebrating on my blog than having wedding / anniversary themed posts? Today, I am reminiscing about my Alfred Angelo Wedding Dress

When I got engaged back in early 2006, I loved all the wedding planning, especially looking at dresses… I went out and bought a bunch of bridal magazines, flicked through them all, and cut out the ones I liked the best to stick into a small blue scrapbook.

Why Blue? Well we were quite young when we were engaged, and my engagement ring had a blue stone, aquamarine 💍 – so I chose my theme colours of white and blue based on my engagement ring. (I also incorporated butterflies into this!)

Anyway, I had a few different designs that I liked the look of,  but one dress had caught my eye from its full-page advert:

Alfred Angelo 1516

That’s right, I remember the number!

It didn’t have a special name, or a fancy description, just 1516, but it did have a beautiful colourful train, and band of colour around the top of the bust, with pretty detail at the front.

As I saw it, I knew this was it, my dress.

The default colour in the photo was red, and it had a swatch colour chart down the side of the advert, with lots of colours to choose from, and there was my colour, pale blue!

When I visited the wedding dress shop, I tried on a couple of other dresses first, but I wasn’t happy with them.

Then I got to try on 1516 … It was red, but it was still THE dress

I managed to find a matching colour veil and tiara / headband from eBay of all places (as well as my bridesmaids dresses – I was a bride on a budget!)

On my wedding day, I loved wearing this dress, I loved the train that flowed, and the detail around the bust. It’s a pity that wedding dresses only get one day out as I would wear it again if I could!

I even had a ceramic cake-topper created for the day, and it had my wedding dress design on it.

This cake topper is one of the best things I’ve ever purchased, as it’s a constant reminder of our wedding day, I love looking at it!

I had just found out that Alfred Angelo have filed for bankruptcy and closed all its stores, and there are a lot of brides that won’t get their wedding dresses.

My thoughts go out to them all, as I can’t imagine what they are going through!
It is so sad when any company has to file for bankruptcy, but the fact that it is a Wedding dress company, and the one that made my dress makes it even more so.

My wedding dress remains in its dust bag, and hasn’t been out for a while, I might have to try it on again one day….

What a gorgeous dress Jenny. And what a shame about the company. My mother in law actually made my wedding dress. Such a beautiful gesture by her and I will treasure my dress forever….maybe my daughter will one day wear it….maybe??

That looks like a fab wedding dress and so sad that they have to close! Don’t really have a wedding dress story like yours. I remember panicking and going into a designer shop and thinking I must choose one soon, or I’m dead. Did go away with a simple white dress which I really loved 🙂

WOW What a beautiful dress! I love the dresses with pops of colour and I bet it really stood out on the day. I actually brought a dress online without even trying it on it was a Justin Alexander proper princess dress and everything I thought I wanted and loved. When it arrived and I tried it on for alterations I hated it, it just didn’t suit my shape at all! Hubby was not best pleased at the amount of money spent already so was definitely not happy when I went in search of a new dress (I did manage to sell on the Justin Alexander in the end!) but I ended up finding my perfect dress just 3 months before I got married in a lovely little dress shop in Bristol! x

Wow! That is brave ordering one off the internet without trying it on, such a shame it didn’t work out, good you got one that suited you though !

Such a gorgeous dress! I will choose the blue too in case I need to choose from the two. For what had happened for Alfredo, I hope they can still survive with it and also for the brides to be, to still have a good wedding dress.

I love this blog post! I still have a very deep emotional attachment to my dress. I actually looked at the same dress you had. I ultimately ended up with a dress from a different company, but my bridesmaid’s gowns were Alfred Angelo. So sad to hear what’s happened to them, and even more sad to hear that the brides will never get their dream dresses.

Ah I’ve seen this dress before, but never in this pale blue colour. It is so nice, and very pretty. So sad that the company as gone bankrupt, all those brides must be so gutted
